Speaking Up For Northern Rocky Mountain Wolves

Due to a 2011 budget rider (Sec. 1713) passed earlier this year, gray wolves in Idaho, Montana, eastern Washington, eastern Oregon and northern Utah lost federal protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Since the passage of this controversial bill, the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) has been inundated with emails and calls from our dedicated supporters asking for resources so they can speak up for northern Rocky Mountain wolves. Just a few months ago wolves of Idaho and Montana were endangered. Today they are hunted. At least 36 wolves have been killed in these two states so far.

With so many issues on our government’s plate, it’s difficult to be heard through the political din. A new petition is in circulation though whitehouse.gov that has a chance of getting the President’s attention if 5000 signatures are obtained within the next month. If your hackles are up about the delisting rider and the consequent hunts that followed, please consider signing this petition.

  1. D. E-Platt says:

We need to protect & preserve our wildlife, and the balance in nature. This means protecting wolves from being hunted so that they can not only survive but also take down those animals that overpopulated, or need to be culled for herds to be kept healthy.

Unlike humans who will kill the biggest & best creatures, wolves will take the sick, the old & the young allowing those who are strong & healthy to live & breed.

  2. Mike Ward says:

The fact that this delisting was hidden in a budget rider shows the under handedness of the thought behind it.
Favoring Ranchers, whom utilize public lands for their livestock, shouldn’t give them free reign to shoot ANY predator that stumbles across their UNATTENDED livestock.
They often take advantage of the Gov’t reimbursement program and blame wolves for depredation, when SCIENCE from Biologist who aren’t tethered to special interest, explain this isn’t the case. FERAL dog take more livestock than Wolves. Bear take more livestock than Wolves!
Look at how many Elk are harvested a year, and it shows there is NO decimation of game animal due to reintroduction of wolves, but merely the prey animals learn to adjust to this addition, and move around more often.
Gee, what a concept! Hunters have to actually hunt for them now, compared to when Elk were over grazing the land, depriving other plant/animal species and spreading disease, all so the hunting guides can easily drive up and shoot them like fish in a barrel!
These actions by Congress are a joke and fool no one as to what’s behind this action.., GREED from special interest who spread propaganda and fear mongering, and Politico’s who pander for their vote! Look at the Anti wolf supporters promoting “SSS”, which means ; Shoot, shovel, and shut up! Is this what the United States of America endorses.., by the comments of the Governors out west, it’s exactly what they are promoting, and it’s the black eye on this country coming from them, that leads the rest of the uneducated to hate a animal for it’s mere existence. ACT NOW!
Lead by science, not by lies!

  3. adrienne Brimlow says:

I am opposed to the hunting of the northern Rocky Mountain wolves.

  4. barbara barron says:

I am exasperated with our so called enlightened society that continues to blame wolves and label them villains. Wolves return and the balance of nature is restored. A steer is easily replaced(or compensation paid). Not so the wolf. Irreplaceable!!

  5. Dawn Meyers says:

If we the people think we can bring back the wolves that is good. How can we work together when the ranchers are right there? Destroying our echo system will eventually be our demise. The ranchers can move the territory is for wild~life. Is it that hard to understand? Our children s children will suffer as a result. Man the destroyer of much given to us from a Supreme Being. How sad
