Hate, Intolerance, and Wolves

Folks hating wolves is nothing new. And with recent wolf hunts being such a contentious issue, one might expect a certain vitriol with regards to wolves that might not be present in, say, duck hunters. It seems, however, the loathing within many has taken on an air of depravity. Some have gone so far as asking “Is wolf hatred gateway bigotry?” Wolf hunts are in full swing in ID, MT, WY, and WI and social media sites are flooding with aggressive photos and language.

One photo that recently emerged reflected a small group posing with a dead wolf in front of an American flag. The people were armed and their faces masked under white hoods.

“The vilification of predators has taken on a new hue: one associated with righteous patriotism. But all true Americans should be concerned about this tenor of violence and hatred toward other living beings… What lessons are we teaching young people when we show such blatant disrespect and denigration of wildlife?”

A very bad lesson…

  1. Ellen Marmon says:

It is a very bad idea to delist grey wolves in the lower 48 states, a very, very bad idea.. In fact, I believe they should never have been removed from Federal protection in the Northern Rockies and western Great Lakes regions; this only gave rise to the kind of mindless hate we see in anti-wolf groups. The wolf “harvests” are nothing less than a holocaust, and need to be stopped before our wolves … yes, OUR wolves … are again driven to the brink of extinction. We should, instead, be focusing on their beauty, their value in the ecosystems, their value to us a symbols of our wilderness. Thank you.

I appreciate the accurate and helpful “talking points”. They are invaluable especially when emotions are strong. I need the education and direction I am getting here to strengthen my voice.

  4. Monica C Wells Chambers says:

The hatred displaying now do have a evil hatred tone to an animal that hadn’t done a damn thing to him/her. It’s frightening to see a hatred toward a vital, necessary and God given animal, placed on earth by the Good Lord for a damn good reason. To help keep nature balanced, it seemed as so call people, haven’t learned from the past. Nature took care of itself without man inteferring. Well Man, you’re destroying EVERYTHING, with bigotry, hatred, ignorance, greed and more greed. I fear the future for ourselves and for our kids. This is unnecessary genocide of a being that is more humane than we are.

Sign me up when the human population (specifically dumbasses that hunt game for sport), needs culling of its own!
