WCC Wolves Beat the Heat
Pound Ridge Fire Department and Marshall Oil Help WCC Wolves Beat the Heat!!!
On July 2, the Pound Ridge Fire Department and Marshall Oil joined forces to come to the aid of the Wolf Conservation Center and its ambassador wolves, Kaila, Apache, Lukas, and Atka by filling the pond that the wolves use to cool off in during the sultry months of summer.
"Normally it takes many, many trips back and forth with containers of water to get the pond full," explained Operations Manager, Spencer Wilhelm, "but this time we were able to do it in an afternoon!" The volunteer fire fighters parked the truck at the bottom of the hill leading to the WCC, and,
with assistance of WCC volunteers and staff, snaked the 300-foot, bright yellow hose up to the wolves' enclosure -- much to the delight of the wolves, who checked out the whole procedure and jumped into the pond as soon as it was filled.
"This was a terrific enrichment experience for our ambassadors," said WCC Curator, Rebecca Bose, who is always looking for ways to offer the wolves new experiences that stimulate their natural curiosity. "And of course, it was great for us because it freed up so much of our time to take care of
other things. Thanks again to our loyal volunteer, Sam Dodge, for coming up with the idea and coordinating everything so superbly!"
