Native American Dance and Storytime at the Wolf Conservation Center

June 13, 2010 – WCC guests, staff and volunteers had a blast at the WCC’s special June program: Native American Dance and Storytime!  The unique program was lead by Little Hawk, a member of the Mohawk tribe and a talented storyteller.  He infused his stories with song and dance to convey the special relationship that Native Americans have with the natural environment.  Little Hawk wasn’t the only one in the mood to dance, his fun and interactive program had most of the guests joining in on the festivities.  A few of us even felt sore the next day!  The smoke dance was a real “doozie.” It challenged all who participated to use their teeth to pick up a feather off the ground with nothing but their feet touching the ground!  Guests learned about the history of the Iroquois Nation and learned to say “hello” in four languages: “Sekoh” (pronounced seh-goh) means “hello” in Mohawk.  It was another fun and informative day at the WCC.  I wonder what the wolves thought about all the drumming?
