May 6, 2010
- Wolf Conservation Center staff discovered that our on-exhibit red wolf breeding pair had puppies!  “Mama Wolf” F1397 and “Papa Wolf” M1483 welcomed their very first litter of pups sometime very early on Thursday morning.  The litter consists of 2 wolves, both male and each no larger than a Russet potato.  With about 300 red wolves in the world, these pups are a valuable addition to a
critically endangered species.  Click here to see a video of the first look at the re pups!

May 11, 2010 – The pups are 5 days old and doing well and today they received their official names!  The two pups are “named” m1803 and m1804.  The alpha numeric names reflect the sex of the animal (“f” for female or “m” for male) and the number represents where the animal stands since the Red Wolf Recovery Program began with just 14 wolves (the older the wolf the lower the number).  F1397 has been carrying the two boys back and forth from various “nests” as well as in and out of the den she created from the existing den we provided her with.  Click Here to see video of her moving the pups.

May 15, 2010 – m1803 and m1804 are nine days old today!  F1397 is doing a fine job keeping her two sons healthy, they are growing nicely and their coats look great.   She stashed the boys back in the thick brush, it seems she has multiple nests there.  In a couple of days their eyes should open although their vision will remain poor for some time still.  Keep up the great work, Mama!

May 20,2010 – m1803 and m1804 turned two weeks old today, the age for them to receive a dewormer treatment.  WCC staff and volunteers ventured into their enclosure early this morning to weigh the pups and administer the treatment.  The foliage is so thick in the enclosure that it took the WCC team close to 20  minutes to locate the pups, who were stashed by mom F1397 deep in the dense thicket.   Both m1803 and m1804 have grown significantly larger since the last time they were checked just 5 days ago, with one pup weighing 2.75lbs and the other 2.25lbs on a kitchen scale borrowed from Mrs Lewis for the occasion.  Both now have open eyes (the larger pup more so than his brother) and are able to crawl about at a very slow pace.  All in all, the pups look healthy and adorable.

June 4, 2010 - Red wolf pups m1803 and m1804 are just over four weeks old and have grown considerably since our last eyewitness account!  With eyes wide open and added confidence on their feet, they've begun to romp about the entrance of their den.  Although their ears are still folded, the young pups are no longer deaf.  When their mother summons them to emerge from the den, they quickly comply.  Soon F1397 will begin the gradual process of weaning, and her sons will venture beyond the den site to explore their surroundings.  With any luck, visitors will start catching glimpses of these young pups on the move!  Click here to watch video of red wolf F1397 interact with her two adorable sons, m1803 and m1804.

June 11, 2010 - The WCC's New "WOLFCAM" is Here!   The WCC's WOLFCAM allows you to watch members of our Exhibit Red Wolf Pack.  See if you can spot new red wolf parents F1397 and M1483 and their two young pups!  The pups are just over a month old and they're starting to explore the area outside their den.  Wolves are naturally very elusive, so if you don't see them at first, please check back periodically.  Your patience will be rewarded!  The pack is most active in the morning and the evening.  If you see something interesting, please feel free to post your observation on the WCC Facebook page!  In the meantime, you can click here to watch brand new recorded video of the red wolf family!

June 20, 2010 - Happy Father's Day!   Remarkable fathers can be found all over the world and one of them resides right here at the Wolf Conservation Center! Red wolf M1483 is a first-time dad and he is doing a spectacular job in his new position. He has exhibited admirable patience, affection, and protectiveness, exemplifying the amazing role that a father plays in the wolf world.  Here are three videos (all viewable in Hi-Def!) of M1483 and his two sons, m1803 and m1804. Go grab dad and enjoy!

July 4, 2010
- We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend! Lukas, Kaila and Atka had a great time at our Saturday evening program: "Red Wolf, White Wolf and Blue Aawwwooooo!" Both wolves and guests enjoyed their red, white or blue frozen treats - the perfect therapy for the intense heat. When the WCC team returned from our FANTASTIC adventure in Yellowstone National Park, we were taken aback by the heat wave as well as the size of red wolf pups m1803 and m1804!!! The pups are two months old today and they're full of spirit. This video was taped on Saturday, July 4th.   I'll take the sounds of the WCC over fireworks any day :-)

July 8, 2010 - Red wolf pups m1803 and m1804 are over two months old and due for a health check. Their last checkup on May 20th went smoothly, the lone true challenge was locating the two-week-old pups in their lush enclosure. Yesterday's attempt to capture and vaccinate the pups proceeded neither with ease nor success! Read more.....

July 22, 2010The Red Wolf Pups are Gorwing Up!  11-week-old red wolf pups m1803 and m1804 are coming into their own! The two boys are all ears and they're growing more independent each day. Most active during the cooler hours of the day, the pups are often venturing beyond the den area to explore the outskirts of their enclosure.  Although they're feeling adventurous, they still check in with parents, F1397 and M1483, as often as they can.  Click here.

August 14, 2010 - Being a parent is a full time job and red wolves M1483 and F1397 know this all too well.  These first-time parents often seem to be up day and night looking after their 14-week-old sons, m1803 and m1804.  Don't you hate it when your kids won't go to bed!  Click here to watch the frisky family in action during the night!
