WCC mourns loss of Mexican gray wolf pup

Dear friends,

It is with sadness that we share devastating news; Zeppelin, one of Mexican gray wolf Trumpet’s pups, died unexpectedly this week, and the cause of death is inconclusive. At just under three months old, his name had yet to be bestowed so we gifted him the name of Zeppelin, originally given to one of his wild brothers. Through glimpses into his life from the livestreaming webcams, we learned he was playful and bold, yet loving and gentle when needed. His older brothers surely thought of him as mischievous but to his littermate Ikal, he was everything – a friend, confidant, playmate, and source of comfort rolled into a petite package. He will surely miss Zeppelin the most.

Our thoughts are with his family, who are navigating a new way of life after dealing with a heartbreaking and unexpected loss, and with all of you – Zeppelin’s global family who never knew him, and never would know him, but were able to fall in love with him nevertheless.

Thank you so much for your support.
