The Bear Reality: Bears and Brews

Black bears (Ursus americanus) have repopulated the northeast and learning to coexist with these large mammals is crucial. Join the WCC and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Melissa Ruszczyk for an in-depth look at these iconic and resourceful animals! Guests will learn the bear basics: biology, feeding habits, and how to coexist with these misunderstood creatures, all while enjoying an assortment of Heineken beer and snacks. After the talk, guests will visit Ambassador Wolves Alawa, Nikai, and Zephyr. 

Pre-registration is required.

Ages:  Adults 21+
Fees:  $20 per person

Melissa Ruszczyk is a Seasonal Resource Assistant with the Furbearer/Black Bear Program for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. She began working with the department on a volunteer basis and after three years she was hired as a seasonal assistant, a position she has maintained for nine seasons. Melissa has also worked with the Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery Program in New Mexico and Arizona to help recover the imperiled species.
